YouTuber Who Captured World Trade Tricks On Handycam Footage

It was the morning of September 11, 2001. Casey Neistat was in his friend’s New York apartment where he had recently moved. Suddenly he heard a “crashing noise” and he stuck his head out the window to see what was going on. He saw some paper fall in the air. Neistat – now one of the most popular vloggers on YouTube – had no idea what was going on. Neistat’s roommate ran over and turned on the television, but couldn’t find anything on the news. But soon, “It happened and it was the first shot like the building on fire,” Neistat shares in one of his YouTube vlogs. The vlogger immediately grabbed his bag and video camera – it was his first camera – and walked towards the World Trade Center towers.

Neistat shows the images he captured on his handycam in his vlog. The footage shows firefighters rushing towards the towers and screaming sirens. In the following visual, the footage shows the World Trade Center behind two buildings. The tower burns and thick smoke comes out. Neistat zooms in for a close-up view of the burning tower. Sharing what it was like to be there, Neistat said: “What looked like car parts and clearly were airplane parts strewn along the street.”

He erases a few seconds of the video in which he supposedly talks about seeing dead people. He further describes seeing a guy with a tall pile of sheets running around throwing sheets to cover the wounded and the dead. “I saw the sheet touch the ground, then like red go through the sheet, and I was terrified,” Neistat explains. Of the firefighters he captured rushing into the building, Neistat says, “It’s the most haunting memory of that day, because none of these guys survived.” Of the 2,996 people who died in the September 11 attacks, 343 were firefighters. The September 11 attacks were the deadliest incident for American firefighters.

On September 11, 19 Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four mid-flight US commercial planes and crashed two in the north and south towers of the World Trade Center in New York and one in the Pentagon, Virginia. The fourth flight failed to hit its target, which could have been the United States Capitol or the White House, and crashed into a field.
