ISLAMABAD: Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley and Australian Cricketers Association CEO Todd Greenberg joined Australian Deputy High Commissioner Joanne Frederiksen and Pakistan Blind Cricket Council Chairman Sultan Shah in training camp of six days and a championship for women and girls with visual impairment.
The Australian High Commission sponsored the training camp and tournament for visually impaired women from across Pakistan.
Deputy High Commissioner for Australia, Joanne Frederiksen said: “By sponsoring this cricket clinic, we hope it has given these women and girls the opportunity to play one of the most popular sports of Pakistan and show their skills and abilities.
This can help reduce gender stereotypes and negative perceptions associated with women with disabilities.
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said: “Cricket is a sport for everyone. It helps with confidence. It breaks stereotypes and is a great way to gain confidence.
Big credit to the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council for the top notch work they do. Seeing young girls from all over the country here for a week-long clinic is amazing. Just look at the smiles on the faces and the friendships to see the positive impact this has.
Australian Cricketers Association CEO Todd Greenberg said: “I would love to see these girls promoted more and I would love to see our governments continue to support them.
The more girls can play, the more they can experience and grow. We will continue to provide more funding and support to introduce these types of programs to the wider community.
Officials donated the Australian cricket team kits to tournament participants and played with women and girls at training camp.
