Australia had been written off ahead of the T20 World Cup after losing their last five bilateral series, but beat everyone with brilliant cricket overall. The Australians had the final say and images quickly appeared on social media of the team celebrating the glory. Steve Smith uploaded a selfie with Adam Zampa praising his efforts during the tournament, while Glenn Maxwell was seen wearing ski goggles during the celebrations.
Wade also wore the glasses, which is now a tradition that first found its roots in American sports. The glasses are worn to prevent French bubbles from entering athletes’ eyes, since the alcohol content of champagne is high enough to cause serious damage. Glenn Maxwell suggested the celebrations are just beginning, tweeting: “I am unreachable for the next few days… well done”.

New Zealand had scored 172 in their innings, on captain Kane Williamson’s fine 85 on just 48 balls. In response, Australia got off to a bad start as the team lost their skipper Aaron Finch (5) in the third set. However, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner resurrected the innings with half a century of counterattacking to seal the deal. Warner, who was named player of the tournament, left for 53, but Marsh went undefeated and saw his team cross the line with comfortable ease.
